Corey Hart - Never Surrender (HQ AV)
From 1985's second successful album "Boy In The Box" here it's the smash-hit "Never Surrender" by the "sunglasses boy" Corey Hart. Review.- Corey Mitchell Hart is a Canadian musician. The hit single, "Sunglasses at Night" (reached number 7 in 1984 on US charts, moreover, his biggest success even) propelled Canadian pop star Corey Hart to the top of the charts and helped his debut album, 1983's "First Offense", become a major hit in the United States and Canada. Born in Montreal on May 31, 1962, he traveled frequently as a child, living in the Bahamas with his father, but primarily following his mother through Mexico, Spain, and Florida, among other places. His early efforts to sign with Canadian record companies were fruitless; he then went to New York, worked for a while, and returned to Canada, eventually signing a contract with Aquarius Records. Hart was attractive, brooding, and smart, the kind of young man a lot of women wanted, making him a sex symbol of the '80s. He was asked to record "The Heat is On" for the movie Beverly Hills Cop and "Danger Zone" from Top Gun, but refused, insisting he would only record his own music. Hart's appeal was so great he was even approached about being in movies, and he reportedly turned down the Michael J. Fox role in Back to the Future. His cool, athletic good looks made it easy to promote him as a post-teen sex symbol, but while his songwriting never managed to get very deep, he sang with a passion that made his songs appealing. "Boy in the Box", the 1985 follow-up to his debut, produced a hit single with "Never Surrender," which would remain his highest-charting song (reached number 3 in August,1985). His next album, "Fields of Fire", met with some commercial success, but after that, his fortunes began to wane in the United States. His next two albums garnered little attention and 1990's "Bang" was his last with Aquarius. 1992's "Attitude and Virtue" was his first album with Sire/Warner, before he joined Columbia and released a self-titled album in 1996 and 1998's Jade, which Hart describes as his best-sung album to date. He continues to write songs and lives in the Bahamas with his wife and three daughters (recently, he has one son too).

Review.- Helen Folasade Adu (born 16 January 1959), better known as Sade, is a Nigerian-born English singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer, noted for her soulful, smoky contralto voice. She has achieved success in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s as the frontwoman and lead vocalist of the popular Grammy Award-winning group Sade. Sade was born in Ibadan, ?y? State, Nigeria. Her name, Folasade, means honour confers a crown. Her parents, Bisi Adu, a Nigerian lecturer in economics of Yoruba background, and Anne Hayes, an English nurse, met in London and moved to west Africa. Later, when the marriage ran into difficulties, Anne returned to Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England, taking four-year-old Sade and her older brother Banji to live with her parents. Living in Colchester, Essex, Sade read a good deal, developed an interest in fashion, acquired a taste for dancing and listened with pleasure to soul artists like Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, and Marvin Gaye. In 1977, Sade arrived in London for a three-year course in fashion design at St. Martin's College. On graduating, she set up a small fashion company, making men's clothes, in London's Chalk Farm, with a friend, Gioia Mellor. She also found work as a photographic model. Her debut album, Diamond Life (with overall production by Robin Millar), went Top Ten in the U.K. in late 1984. January 1985 saw the album released on CBS' Portrait label and by spring it went platinum off the strength of the Top Ten singles "Smooth Operator" (which reached # 5 at US Billboard Hot 100, and probably, her major hit) and "Hang on to Your Love." Her second album, Promise (November 1985), featured "Never As Good As the First Time" and arguably her signature song, "The Sweetest Taboo," which stayed on the U.S. pop charts for six months. Sade was so popular that some radio stations reinstated the '70s practice of playing album tracks, adding "Is It a Crime" and "Tar Baby" to their play lists. In 1986, Sade won a Grammy for Best New Artist. Sade's third album was 1988's Stronger Than Pride and featured her first number one soul single "Paradise," "Nothing Can Come Between Us," and "Keep Looking." A new Sade album didn't appear for four years. 1992's Love Deluxe continued the unbroken streak of multi-platinum Sade albums, spinning off the hits "No Ordinary Love," "Feel No Pain," and "Pearls." While the album's producer Mike Pela, Matthewman, Denman, and Hale have gone on to other projects. The new millennium did spark a new scene for Sade. She issued Lovers Rock in fall 2000 and incoporated more mainstream elements than ever before. Debut single "By Your Side" was also a hit among radio and adult-contemporary listerners. "By Your Side" is the lead single from Sade's fifth studio album, Lovers Rock (2000). The track was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" in 2002, losing out to Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like a Bird". The video for this single was directed by Sophie Muller. This song was featured in a Sex and the City episode entitled "The Good Fight", originally aired on 6 January 2002. In addition, "By Your Side" was reached #67 in Germany, #29 in Ireland and Sweden, #10 in Italy, #61 in Switzerland, #17 at UK singles chart (2000), in the U.S. Billboard charts was reached #41 at Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, #18 at Adult Contemporary, #2 at Hot Dance Music/Club Play and finally #75 at Hot 100 singles (2001). This is also a very popular song at wedding receptions as most couples choose it as their "First Dance" song. Celebrities who have used this at their weddings include: Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli wedding. As well as, Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra. In 2005, Sade recorded a new track, "Mum", which she had performed at the Voices for Darfur charity concert on 8 December 2004 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, to raise awareness and funding for the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region.

Formed in 1982, the band's two biggest hits were "Goodbye to You" (1982 - #65 U.S.) and "The Warrior" (1984 - #7 U.S.) Guitarist Zack Smith formed the mainstream pop/rock band Scandal after playing in various groups, including ones that featured Dee Murray and Davey Johnson of the Elton John band. Scandal's lineup was secured in 1982, with the addition of vocalist Patty Smyth; the rest of the band included bassist Ivan Elias, guitarist Keith Mack, keyboardist Benji King, and drummer Frankie La Rocka. After opening for acts like the Kinks and Hall & Oates, the band released their debut single, "Goodbye to You," in 1982; their self-titled debut album followed soon afterward. "The Warrior" was released two years later. The title track was a Top Ten hit and the album went platinum. However, Smyth left for a solo career the following year, causing the band to break up. Review Patty Smyth.- Patty Smyth (born June 26, 1957 in New York City, New York, USA) first enjoyed mainstream success in 1982 as vocalist and lead singer of the band Scandal. That band's self-titled debut release became Columbia Records' biggest selling EP ever, and was followed by a further hit in 1984, "The Warrior" reached number seven on US Pop charts. In the mid-'80s, Smyth became friends with Valerie Bertinelli and her then-husband, Eddie Van Halen. When David Lee Roth left the band Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen invited Smyth to replace Roth as the band's lead singer. Smyth declined the offer. Smyth dated punk musician Richard Hell for two years; their daughter, Ruby, was born in 1985. In April 1997, Smyth married John McEnroe; the couple have two daughters, Anna and Ava. Following two solo albums in 1987 and 1992, she secured a further hit record via a duet with Don Henley of The Eagles; "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" peaked at number 2 in the US charts and went gold. Its parent album, Patty Smyth, also went gold and featured an additional Top-40 hit with "No Mistakes", as well as "I Should Be Laughing", a minor hit. She had previously recorded with Henley as a backing vocalist on several songs on his albums Building The Perfect Beast and The End of the Innocence. She subsequently co-wrote the 1994 song "Look What Love Has Done", nominated for a Grammy and an Academy Award after its inclusion on the soundtrack to Junior. Further soundtrack commissions resulted in her penning the theme tune, "Wish I Were You", to the 1998 hit movie Armageddon. As a result of her renewed popularity, Columbia issued a retrospective album, Greatest Hits -- Featuring Scandal. Two new songs were included, including "Carnival Lights". The song, co-written with Bob Thiele Jr., concerned her mother's, Betty Smyth, years as a trapeze artist. Smyth set out to promote the album on an acoustic tour, employing ex-Bullet Lavolta guitarist Duke Roth as her sideman. Note: Patty Smyth is sometimes confused with Patti Smith, the early punk musician.
